Monday Night Football returns to Buffalo when the Patriots come to town and play the Bills. This game, like several others this season, has the potential to get out of hand very quickly. The Patriots are the much better team, and once again, one of the best teams in the NFL. Until another team steps up in the playoffs, expect the Patriots to be back in the Super Bowl. The question for this game isn’t if or how long the Bills can hang around for, but what, if anything, can the Bills get going. Also, this game may very well be the last game for the likes of McCoy, Benjamin, Lawson, or Hughes as the NFL trade deadline approaches next week.
Speaking of the trade deadline, I am all for trading away Kelvin Benjamin for a late round draft pick. As we have seen in recent trades, the Bills should be able to flip that pick if they wanted to for another talented player who doesn’t fit the needs of their current team. Or at the very least, add to their draft capital of the 2019 NFL Draft. McCoy on the other hand should command at least a 2nd and possibly another mid round pick. If the Bills are able to get let’s say a 2nd and a 4th in the 2019 or 2020 draft, they should take the trade. The upcoming draft and free agency has several players who the Bills could plug and play, and would save a considerable amount of money against the salary cap, by trading McCoy. Some Bills fans wouldn’t mind trading Hughes or Lawson at the deadline, but I’m not one of them. The Bills should wait until after the season to trade any Defensive End until they guarantee they are able to draft Nick Bosa, who is likely the 1st overall pick. This of course means the Bills would need to be the worst team in the NFL, but that scenario becomes more likely with each passing week.
Although it’s sad that I’m already talking about the draft and next season, it’s the reality of the situation. Unless the Bills can somehow pull the upset of the century, lots of Bills fans will be turning off the game and heading to bed during halftime.
