Bills Cut Benjamin & Holmes
Today, the Buffalo Bills cut veteran Wide Receivers Kelvin Benjamin and Andre Holmes. The Bills also placed injured Center Russell Bodine on Injured Reserve. In corresponding moves, the Bills promoted both Defensive End, Mike Love and Cornerback, Denzel Rice from their Practice Squad.
The move to cut Kelvin Benjamin should not shock Bills fans, as he has struggled to catch on with the Bills, please excuse the pun. From a fan’s perspective, it seemed that Benjamin had no desire to play in Buffalo or the various Quarterbacks the Bills rolled out. Benjamin finishes the year with 23 receptions for 354 yards and 1 touchdown. In somewhat of a surprise move, the Bills also cut Andre Holmes who has been a reserve receiver and a core special teams player. Holmes finishes the season with 12 receptions for 157 yards.
These moves are all about getting younger and seeing who can make a name for themselves rolling into 2019. Wide Receiver will be without a doubt an area the Bills address during the draft an offseason.
Also, seeing Bodine go down with an injury is tough, as he was playing much better than Ryan Groy. It’ll be interesting to see if the Bills bring back Bodine for 2019, or if they go in a different direction.
Now knowing where the Bills’ head is at for the rest of the year, rumors are sure to circulate around what veteran players might be cut next.
