Bills vs. Bengals Preview (Preseason Week 3)

Who: Buffalo Bills (1-1) vs. Cincinnati Bengals (2-0)

When: Sunday, August 26th 4:00 p.m.

Where: New Era Field

The Bills host the Bengals this Sunday afternoon in Orchard Park. The third preseason game for every team is important, but this game has significant short and long implications for the Bills. Josh Allen, as announced earlier this week, will be getting the start. I suspect him to play the entire first half and maybe a drive or two to start the second. Allen will need to show that he can play at the same level as he did against the backups and third stringers earlier this preseason. Also, as noted by many others, one of the biggest reasons Allen was named the starter was to find out how he went about preparing to start an NFL game. Did he change his preparation, did he become more vocal, how is he handling the early success and pressure? I assume all of these items and more will be answered by the end of the game.

Additionally, the Bills still have several position battles going on on both sides of the ball, with a new addition; punter. This week, the Bills signed longtime Seahawks punter Jon Ryan to a one year contract to compete with Colton Schmidt. For Ryan to sign with the Bills, he must've been told that he had a real possibility to win the job. Personally, I like the move. I think the Bills can upgrade this position, as Schmidt has been near the lower end of punters throughout his time in Buffalo.

I will also be looking to see if Marcus Murphy all but wins the third Running Back job, beating out Cadet and Jones. We are also running out of time to find out which Wide Receivers and Linebackers will make the team. Given that these positions are so tightly contested, it wouldn't surprise me if the Bills remained heavy at these two positions after preseason.

This game will be a good test for the Bills as the Bengals have played pretty well, winning both of their games.

Bills - 17  Bengals - 28
