Bills vs. Vikings Preview
Who: Buffalo Bills (0-2) vs. Minnesota Vikings (1-0-1)
When: Sunday, September 23rd 1:00 p.m.
Where: U.S. Bank Stadium
The Bills will look to pick up where they left off in the second half of last week’s game against the Chargers. This will be, once again, a very difficult game for the Bills. Experts across the league have the Vikings going very deep into the playoff once again, with a possible Super Bowl appearance included in that. With key players banged up on both sides of the ball for the Bills, Allen and company will need to step up and maintain long possessions and produce solid defensive stops.
Whether or not LeSean McCoy plays, the Bills will need to get creative with their offensive game plan. The Vikings defense is among the best in the league with star players at all three levels. Griffen, Barr, and Rhodes lead the units and will create havoc for the Bills. If Shady does suit up this week, being tackled will not be the issue. McCoy stated earlier in the week that running at full speed was the issue. If for some reason he cannot manage the pain well, don’t expect him to get the bulk of the carries.
If the Bills want to stop the Vikings at any capacity, it’ll start with who is calling plays defensively. I suspect that Sean McDermott will retain the play calling duties, while coach Frazier will help in a different capacity. Additionally, newly signed corner, Ryan Lewis, from the Bills practice squad is likely to see a fair amount of playing time since he’s healthy, and is familiar with the playbook. Regardless of who is playing it’ll be hard to stop the countless weapons the Vikings and Cousins has to work with.
Similar to other games this season, the Bills are likely to give up points early and often, and will try and claw their way back as the game moves on. Unfortunately, I think the Bills’ comeback attempt will fall a little short for the third week in a row.
